01 — Higher & technical education

A university campus in a taluka

The NMIMS residential campus at Mukesh Patel Technology Park, Shirpur, opened in 2007 as the university’s second campus and its first outside Mumbai. Bhupesh R. Patel is recorded as having been instrumental in developing it for engineering and pharmaceutical programmes, and as taking a continuing interest in its activities.

The site runs to fifty acres with roughly ten lakh square feet of built-up area. The campus is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and offers programmes in technology management and engineering, pharmacy and technology management, and agricultural sciences and technology. An academy of aviation operates from the airstrip at Shirpur.

The most recent addition is the D-Wing, inaugurated in July 2026 in his presence: six classrooms, two tutorial rooms, twelve laboratories, two seminar halls, a dedicated workspace for student clubs and the placement department, with specialised facilities for computer vision, big data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation.

02 — School education

The military school opened in 2003 as a residential institution intended to prepare boys and girls for entry into the defence services, and to build resilience more broadly. It states its aim as developing character on six foundations — self-awareness, self-discipline, trustworthiness, self-respect, responsibility and empathy.

Alongside it, the CBSE school gives families in Shirpur access to a national board curriculum without relocating, and the Shirpur Education Society — of which he is Managing Director — operates schools and junior colleges across the town and surrounding area.

Both the military school and the CBSE school are among the Shirpur institutions he is recorded as having envisioned establishing under SVKM.

03 — Healthcare

Twelve hundred beds at Shirpur

On 25 April 2026 the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated SVKM’s Tapanbhai Mukeshbhai Patel Memorial Hospital & Research Centre at Shirpur. The first phase carries 1,200 beds across approximately seven lakh square feet.

The stated purpose is to deliver advanced medical care of the kind ordinarily available only in metropolitan centres such as Mumbai and Delhi to underserved and tribal populations across Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Nashik — districts where a serious diagnosis has historically meant a long journey.

Reporting on the project credits the initiative to the leadership of Shri Amrish Patel, President of SVKM and a former Education Minister of Maharashtra, together with Bhupesh Patel, whose vision is described as having been key to bringing it to life.

An earlier healthcare project, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, is recorded among the works undertaken during his terms as President of the Shirpur–Warvade Nagar Palika.

04 — Co-operative industry

Three thousand jobs, held in common

For more than a decade he was Chairman of Priyadarshini Sahakari Soot Girani Ltd., Shirpur — a spinning and dyeing unit operating within the co-operative sector, employing more than three thousand people and described as the largest co-operative initiative in Maharashtra.

The choice of form matters. A private company of that size distributes wages; a co-operative distributes membership as well, which changes who the enterprise is accountable to. In a district with limited industrial employment, that is a substantive difference rather than a technical one.

It also completes the educational argument. Colleges that train people a district cannot employ export their graduates. An industrial employer of this scale, sitting in the same taluka as the campuses, gives the training somewhere local to land.

Across three terms as President of the Shirpur–Warvade Nagar Palika — 2001 to 2006, 2009 to 2011 and 2014 to 2016 — the council delivered the programme listed alongside. The Government of Maharashtra recognised the municipality as the best-managed Nagar Parishad in the state, and it became the first recipient of an award of ₹40 lakh.

The work continues to be relevant to the institutions. In March 2026 the NMIMS Shirpur campus ran a rural development awareness campaign, funded by the Mirae Asset Foundation, across twenty villages of Shirpur taluka — addressing water scarcity and conservation, sanitation, agricultural practice and access to maternal healthcare, and presenting a village-level data dashboard. He was among the guests honoured at its inauguration.
